The following story actually happened, and is a good example of why the preparation of wills & life insurance are so important…

A farmer in his early 40’s had two adult children from a previous marriage, a new wife and baby. His will had not been updated since his first marriage (in fact his ex wife was still the executor!). Upon the advice of his accountant he updated his will (very reluctantly). Along with this he set up some life insurance which provided individual policies for each of his adult children, so in the event of a premature death, his adult children received lump sum payments without compromising the financial security of his wife and baby. Within 2 months of the will and life insurance being set up, he was diagnosed with a brain tumour & within 12 months he was dead….aged 44 years.
